Southlanders Scores a Goal

Southlanders are pleased to announce that they have secured a grant £600 to buy football equipment for their fledgling “Neighbourhood Sports Academy.

This grant was secured from the fund operated by Sussex Police under the terms of the Police Property Fund.

Southlanders ran a trial number of football training sessions for youngsters of our neighbourhood during the summer of 2008 in partnership with King George United & Brighton & Hove Albion at Quayside Youth Centre.

These sessions proved extremely successful with an average of 30 youngsters attending these sessions [and on one occasion we registered 65 youngsters attending].

Southlanders have been working over the last few months to develop the concept of a “neighbourhood sports academy” with King George United and Girls Aloud Football Academy. Quayside Youth Centre and WSCC Fire & Rescue Service

It is planned that the sessions will recommence in April 2009 – following on from the attendance of “The Cage” at Parklands during February and March 2009.

A formal “handover” presentation will be held on Tuesday 24th February 2009 at Southlanders Community Cafe at 1600
