What is Community Development?

Community development has a long history in Britain dating back to social

campaigners 1800s.

Community development is about strengthening the ability of people to act on joint interests and in the common interest, including having equal concern for other communities. The key principles of community development are based around:

o   Communities deciding on the issues

o   People working together to make changes

o   Justice

o   People having a greater say in decisions that affect their communities

o   People learning from each other
